How much Google Ads costs in Latin America in 2026: CPC by industry and country

Updated on November 4, 2026.

How much does a click on Google Ads cost? The honest answer is "it depends on the keyword you buy", but that answer does not help a manager who has to defend a budget. So we measured the cost per click in five Latin American countries using the same 70 commercial keywords in Spanish, spread across 10 industries. The result: within the same country, a B2B software click costs between 16 and 29 times more than a retail click at the median, and the same keyword can triple in price when it crosses a border.

How much Google Ads costs by industry in Latin America (2026)

Cost per click (CPC) is what an advertiser pays each time someone clicks on its ad. Google describes it in its Google Ads help center as a price set by an auction: it depends on how many advertisers compete for the keyword, how much they bid and how good the ad is. That is why there is no single "Google Ads price", only a price per keyword, per country and per moment.

The table shows the median CPC of each industry's keywords, in US dollars. We use the median rather than the average because a single expensive keyword (such as "software de recursos humanos", HR software, which tops USD 20 in Chile and Colombia) skews the average of an entire industry.

Retail and ecommerceUSD 0.25 · Chile 0.22 · Mexico 0.32 · Colombia 0.24 · Peru 0.20 · Argentina 0.25

The clearest takeaway is the ranking of industries, which repeats in almost every country. B2B software is the most expensive in four of the five markets (education beats it in Peru), and retail and ecommerce is the cheapest in four (in Argentina, real estate comes in just below). In between there are two groups: high-value services (education, insurance, lawyers), generally between USD 1.30 and USD 5.50 per click, and mass-market categories (health, travel, cars, real estate), which never go above USD 1.20.

The logic is economic. An accounting software customer pays a subscription for years; an MBA student pays thousands of dollars; an insurance policy renews. When customer lifetime value is high, advertisers can bid more per click and the auction goes up. A pair of sneakers, on the other hand, leaves a thin margin and is searched by hundreds of thousands of people a month, so the click gets cheaper.

Google Ads costs change when you cross a border

Industry explains most of the price, but country still matters. With the same keyword, spelled the same way, costs drift apart. Here are some of the study's keywords compared across the five countries:

Three cases stand out. "Online university" costs about USD 16 per click in Mexico and Peru, four times more than in Chile or Colombia, because officially recognized online education is a fiercely contested business in those markets. "Criminal lawyer" is more expensive in Chile than in any other country in the study. And "accounting software" in Argentina tops USD 20 per click with only 170 searches a month: a few advertisers with a lot at stake are enough to inflate a small auction.

Mexico has the highest overall median (USD 1.41) and Argentina the lowest (USD 0.86). But the gap between countries is smaller than the gap between industries: a software company pays more per click in Argentina than a store does in any country in the region.

How much Google Ads costs per month: from CPC to budget

To go from CPC to budget, the basic math is CPC times clicks. The table multiplies Chile's median by three typical traffic volumes. It does not include campaign management fees or the conversion rate, which varies a lot from site to site.

Industry (Chile)Median CPC500 clicks a month1,000 clicks a month3,000 clicks a month

HealthUSD 0.98USD 490USD 980USD 2,940

For a marketing manager, the conclusion is simple: in the industries at the top of the table, every month of paid traffic costs as much as a large share of a year of organic work. We ran the same exercise with typical small business keywords in our guide to SEO for small businesses, and reached the same conclusion.

What to do if clicks in your industry are expensive

A high CPC does not mean Google Ads is a bad idea. It means it has to be used precisely, while building a channel that does not charge per click. These are the decisions that move results the most:

  • Bid on intent, not volume. "crm" in Mexico has 40,500 monthly searches and costs USD 7.07 per click; variants with a city, company size or integration are usually cheaper and convert better.
  • Improve Quality Score. Google acknowledges that a more relevant ad and a better landing page can lower the actual cost paid per click.
  • Separate brand from category. Searches with your company name are cheap; the generic category is where the auction is fought.
  • Shift part of the budget to organic rankings. In our comparison of SEO vs. SEM we explain how to split it: SEM for testing and dated promotions, SEO for stable categories where paid clicks are expensive.

In expensive categories, organic results depend heavily on domain authority, that is, on how many trustworthy sites link to yours. That is why software, insurance and education companies often combine content with links from news sites. If your industry sits at the top of the table, it pays to work with an SEO agency that builds authority, not one that only tweaks pages. In Chile, links from Chilean news sites are the most direct shortcut to that authority.

And to measure whether it pays off, the math is the same as with ads: how much traffic and how many customers each dollar brings in. We explain it in our guide to measuring link building ROI, which compares the value of organic traffic with what it would cost to buy it on Google Ads.

Methodology of the Google Ads CPC study

So that these figures can be cited and replicated, here is the full methodology:

  • Source: Google Ads data (the same as the Keyword Planner), retrieved through the DataForSEO API on November 4, 2026.
  • Sample: 70 commercial keywords in Spanish, 7 per industry, identical in all five countries. A CPC was available for 341 of the 350 keyword-country combinations; the 9 without data were excluded.
  • Industries: insurance, lawyers, loans and banking, education, real estate, health, travel, B2B software, automotive and retail.
  • Calculation: median CPC of each industry's keywords, in US dollars. A volume-weighted average gives the same general ranking, but we left it out because a single huge keyword ("hoteles" in Mexico exceeds 3 million monthly searches) dominates the result.
  • Limitations: the Keyword Planner CPC is an estimate of what advertisers paid on average, not a rate card. The real cost of each campaign depends on its Quality Score, targeting and time of day. Some words change meaning between countries ("arriendo" in Chile, "renta" in Mexico, both meaning rent), which is why we used 7 per industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Google Ads click cost in Latin America?+

It depends on the keyword. In our November 4, 2026 measurement, the median of 70 commercial keywords ranged from USD 0.86 per click in Argentina to USD 1.41 in Mexico, with extremes from USD 0.20 in retail to over USD 6 in B2B software.

Which industry is the most expensive on Google Ads in Latin America?+

B2B software: its median CPC averaged USD 5.33 across the five countries. Education (USD 3.68) and insurance (USD 3.34) come next. Retail and ecommerce was the cheapest at USD 0.25.

Which Latin American country has the most expensive Google Ads?+

Of the five measured, Mexico had the highest overall median (USD 1.41 per click) and Argentina the lowest (USD 0.86). Still, industry matters more than country for the final price.

How much monthly budget do I need for Google Ads?+

A simple estimate is your industry's CPC times the clicks you want each month. For example, 1,000 insurance clicks a month in Chile would cost about USD 4,190 in clicks alone, excluding management and taxes.

Is the Keyword Planner CPC accurate?+

It is not a rate card but an estimate of what advertisers paid on average. A campaign's real cost depends on ad Quality Score, targeting, competition at that moment and time of day.
